Do a basic reset:
Turn over the reader and take something sharp. Push it in the hole on the back until it clicks.

You have to hold the power button for 10 seconds to restart it. If the reset method doesnt work, do a complete, factory reset. But you will lose your books and you will have to re-sync.
“You have to hold the power button for 10 seconds to restart it”
Worked for me, thanks.
be careful with a factory reset: what he didnt tell you is that you will lose all the books you transferred manually. Syncing with Kobo servers won’t bring those books back.
I tried holding down the power button for 10 seconds (and longer as well), and it didn’t do anything. I ended up using a pin to reset on the back, and I didn’t lose anything, it just ‘unfroze’ it. It was my only option. Was I lucky, I’m not sure. Perhaps if it’s frozen it doesn’t to a complete rest.
I tried everything the pin in the back and the 10 seconds thing it doesn’t work. I don’t care if I loose all my books I just don’t want to pay for a new one. Anyone have a suggestion?
I grabbed my receipt and thought ‘damn I need to see if they’ll exchange it for me” because nothing happened doing either of those things. Hold the power button AND press reset button at the same time!!
I am in the same situation as you^ idk what to do!
Mine was doing the same thing only once I got mine to start up fully it would freeze when I unplugged the charger then it won’t turn on again for a while idk what to do
Hold something against the reset hole for ten seconds. That’s what saved mine!
reset worked for me without losing any books!
I have a 1st generation kobo ereader. it is frozen only on half of the screen. the other half is responding. I tried the reset button and it didn’t do anything. should i just let it die? and go from there?
my kobo touch froze on a bookmark. Didn’t wanna lose any books, managed to un freeze it by plugging in the power via mini usb.
I tried holding the power button like everyone above then tried the reset button and that did not work but then held the power button again and it worked. Thank you all for your help

My Kobo touch was frozen, I tried recharging and holding power button, bout nothing worked, you need to hold the power button for more than ten seconds…15-20 seconds maybe…. hope it works….
